This week we will be concentrating on what we are thankful for.  We will be creating our “We Are Thankful” books. 

In math, we will be working on both addition and subraction.

Last week we had a wonderful time at the farm!  Thank you for all the parents who came to chaperone.    You are all very appreciated!  Keep on reading your books for Book-It to earn those free pizzas.  Remember to study your spelling words on a daily basis because they are getting progressively harder each week.  Practice practice practice!  Things you can practice at home…

• Reading
• Writing numbers to 100
• Recognizing numbers to 100
• Counting by 1’s to 100
• Counting by 2’s to 100
• Counting by 5’s to 100
• Counting by 10’s to 100
• Counting coins
• Spelling words (We will be holding our first Spelling Bee during Thanksgiving week)   I will send a paper home with all the words we have learned so far. 
• Adding/subtracting

We are doing all these things in class, but it helps so much to have your support at home.  Together Everyone Achieves More!

We have an exciting week coming up!  It’s Red Ribbon Week, which is the week we celebrate being drug-free!  We have parent-teacher conferences and our Fall Party.  Please look for a preconference form that I sent home with your child today.  Please have those filled out and sent back to me by Tuesday, October 27, 2009.  It will help me know any concerns you might want to discuss during our 15 minute conferences .  It’s a short time so I want to get in as much as possible!  Our Fall Party is on Wednesday at 3:00.  We will have a blast!  Have a great weekend !

I hope everyone was able to try to stay warm this week.  The spelling words are getting harder each week so please have your child study them with you daily .  Please check your child’s backpack for the field trip permission slip.  Get those in as soon as you can .  Thank you for all that you do!

Please be sure to get lots of sleep and stay healthy!  I hope everyone has a great weekend and please rememeber to read, read, read!  Remember to record all the book titles that you and your child read together so they can earn a pizza coupon for a free pizza.  Enjoy your weekend and hopefully the rain will stop.

I hope everyone is enjoying their 3 day weekend .  So far the weather has been nice.  Remember to study your spelling words.  Book-It starts October 1st so be prepared to read, read and read some more!    We will be talking more about strategies that your child can use when they get to tricky words when reading.   I will be sending home the strategy sheet that you can look at and use to help your child become a better reader.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!  Our Pin Wheels for Peace Assembly was a great success!  I am so excited we all had a chance to wear our beautiful new Tiger T-shirts .  Please remember to wear them every Friday.  We don’t have school on Friday the 25th so please wear your Tiger T-shirts on Thursday the 24th.  Each week our spelling words are getting more difficult so you have to practice them even more.  Remember to read at least 15 minutes a day with your child.  You can help your child by having them retell the story to check their comprehension. 

I will be sending home a new Scholastic Book Order Flyer next week so be on the look out for it .

This week will be an extra exciting week because Friday your child gets their very own Tiger T-shirt . Please help remind your first grader to wear these shirts every Friday to show school spirit. Please remember to check out our newsletter that is sent home every Friday with your child. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

I had a few parents ask me what they can do with their child at home to practice.  Here are some ideas:

• Writing their first and last name
• Counting to 100 
• Practice writing their numbers
• Counting by 5’s and 10’s

One of the most important things to do each and every night…read with your child for 15 minutes.  Thank you so much for all that you do .
